Using Homeopathics

Storing Homeopathics

  • Never expose the medicine to direct sunlight.
  • Keep the container in a dry place when not in use.
  • Don’t store or use homeopathics near any substances which have strong odours which may antidote the medicine. For example; essential oils or menthol cough lozenges

Handling Homeopathics

  • Pellets or Tablets : Shake the container for at least 10 seconds. Carefully tap the required number of pellets or tablets into the upturned cap (or extract with tweezers) and then drop the dose under your tongue and allow them to dissolve there. Do not touch the pellets with your hands; doing so may contaminate the remaining tablets.
  • Drops : Shake the container for at least 10 seconds. Squeeze the prescribed number of drops directly on your tongue without touching the dropper with your mouth. Drops may be diluted in water if desired.

What to Avoid

The following should be avoided while taking homeopathic remedies because they reduce their effectiveness;

  • Sleeping under an electric blanket
  • Don’t take homeopathics with meals. Allow at least 15 minutes before or after food.
  • Avoid any dental work that involves drilling. Routine check-ups and cleanings are fine.
  • If taking more than one homeopathic at a time, have at least 5 minutes between each new remedy dosage

How to do the “water method”

Dr. Hahnemann who discovered homeopathy,  after many years of working with the remedies found that they work better if interacted with in water. The following is the method which I will often ask patients to perform.

Dissolve pellets in 8 ounces of water.  Stir for 20 seconds.  Sip 1/3 of the glass.  Put aside for the next day.  Next day, stir for 20 seconds.  Sip 1/2 of what is left. Put the glass aside for the next day.  Last day, stir for 20 seconds.  Sip the rest of the water.
